Record Drawings vs. As-Built Drawings: Different Documents, Different Obligations
"As-built" and "record drawings" get used interchangeably on construction projects, but they're different documents with different purposes and different levels of precision. The contractor produces as-builts during construction; the architect (often) produces record drawings at closeout. Contracts that conflate them create disputes about what the contractor owes and what's needed for closeout.
