North Carolina Mechanics Lien Deadlines: The Two Liens, the 120-Day Filing Window, and the Lien on Funds
North Carolina does not give every claimant the same lien. A party in direct contract with the owner can file a claim of lien on real property; a subcontractor or supplier generally cannot reach the title and instead asserts a lien on funds — unless it perfects through subrogation. The claim of lien on real property must be filed within 120 days of last furnishing, and the enforcement suit within 180 days. This guide walks the Chapter 44A timeline a North Carolina contractor or sub actually has to run.
