3-Way vs. 4-Way Match in AP: When the Extra Step Is Worth It

A 3-way match verifies PO, receiving, and invoice. A 4-way match adds inspection or quality acceptance as a fourth document. For construction AP, the extra step matters on specific material classes — structural steel, precast, specialty equipment — where installation happens only after the material passes acceptance. When 4-way is skipped, accepted defective material gets paid for before the defect is found.
